How to integrate KeyWI with Google Search Console?

There are a few reasons why you might have issues with your search console account. We'll explain them here.

  1. Did you give KeyWI access to your Google account?
  2. Don't have access to Search Console?
  3. Do you have the right permissions to Search Console?
  4. Did you get an unverified domain error?
  5. Does KeyWI work without this integration?

Let's start with a video explainer. After that, we will go into a few specific questions.

1. Did you give KeyWI access to your Google account?

When connecting your Google account you need to give KeyWI access to Search Console. KeyWI uses this data to understand your website and its visitors. The data from this web performance tool gives KeyWI the ability to generate tailored advice for your marketing team.

2. Don't have access to Search Console?

If you have multiple people in your organisation, it sometimes occurs that different people created Search Console, Ads and Analytics. If so, it could happen that you do not have access yet. There are two ways to solve this issue:

  1. Ask Administrator to invite you
Ask the administrator or person who does have access to invite you to Search Console. They can invite you in the Search Console settings.
  2. Switch to different Google account
Click on the "Switch Google account" button in the previous step. Log in to a Google account that does have the correct access rights and try again.

3. Do you have the right permissions to Search Console?

If you do have access to your Search Console account, but still can't access the Search Console domain in KeyWI you might not have the correct permissions yet.

  1. Go to Search Console settings and check the column "Permission".
  2. Find out who has the permission to change your permissions.
  3. Ask them to bump your permissions up a notch.

4. Did you get an unverified domain error?

When you receive an error about an unverified search console domain, this means you either do not have access or you site has not been verified by Google yet. By going through the steps below, you will see which issue you have and how to solve it.

  1. Are you not the site owner?
If you are not the owner of the site or not the person who created the search console account you should follow this step:
Ask the administrator or a person who does have access to invite you to Search Console. They can invite you in the Search Console settings.

  1. Did not complete site verification yet?
If you or anyone has not yet completed the site verification for Google Search Console, continue reading.
Follow the steps in this Google support guide on verifying site to verify your domain and start collecting data.

5. Does KeyWI still work without this integration?

The KeyWI assistant does not work without a valid Google Search Console integration connected. To create a personalised search engine marketing assistant we need to understand your target audience, how they search and what content they interact with. This is only possible by connecting these web performance tools.
