To generate keyword sets in KeyWI there are a few steps you need to take. We'll explain everything step by step.

Connect with Google Ads in KeyWI

First, let's answer the question: Why? We use Google's Keyword Planner as a starting point for your new keyword set. It's an amazing tool that generates keywords on the go, so why not.. Next we will add more keywords a bit later, we'll come back to this in a second.

In KeyWI go to your account profile, next go to integrations. That should look something like this:

Under "Add new integrations" you will find the integrations & plugins we currently offer. For keyword generation also known as keyword discovery, you will need to connect a Google Ads account. Sign in with Google and give us permission to connect your accounts. We will only use keyword planner to generate keywords with metrics for your organisation. We will not create any campaigns or use your data in any other way.

Next up, connect one of your Ads accounts. Why? Because Ads account give you access to the Keyword Planner. So let's get this keyword party started.

Can't find any Ads accounts? First, check if you have one. Go to Google Ads and log in to check if you have an account. If they ask you to create one, do so if you want to generate keywords in KeyWI. No worries, you won't be charged anything until you create an ads campaign. (which you don't need in KeyWI)

Generate keyword sets explained

Now the fun starts. We can generate keyword sets from scratch by following the next steps:

1. Go to "New" in our sidebar and choose Keyword Set.
2. Next, select the "Generate keyword set" option and continue.
3. You should now see the settings screen.
4. Here you can set a name and choose your Google settings. We'll use these settings to gather data later.
5. You can also add a domain to find out your current rankings. (Optional)
6. Now you should be seeing a screen like the one below.

It's time to give KeyWI some inspiration. You can choose to add keywords or to add a URL or both. Choose one of the options below.

• Add at least 5 seed keywords that describe your topic, project or website
• Add a URL from a competitor or yourself that describes your topic, project or website
• Add 5 seed keywords AND a URL

Choose the maximum number of keywords you want to discover. At least choose 50. Now we will give you a preview of what you can expect. We will show you about 25 keywords that should be closely related to your topic. You can either go back and change your inspiration to find other keywords, or accept and cluster.
